Overview:
Dan and his wife Jenny purchased a property in Yandoit, Country Victoria as a homestead where he could get out of town, but also so they can propagate plants.
The problem was inconsistent power supply. Brownouts are common in the area, and Dan was aware that this can have a significant impact on his lifestyle and business.
Dan engaged Greenwood to look over his existing electrical infrastructure to see how we could help with his energy needs to give consistent supply as he is on a SWER line.
There was a 10amp bore pump, 2 X 9.5amp water pumps, 8amp UV water treatment pump, 3 split system AC's which were 9 amps each + all of the usual appliances including washing machines and an oven etc.
Before we went to site, Veli, our CEC accredited battery off-grid specialist, asked Dan a series of questions that would assist in helping our site visit before we went, so we had a clear understanding of what we could or could not achieve together.
Our Distinct Approach:
System Design:
50 X Canadian Solar 370W HiKU Tier 1 Panels
1 X Fronius 8.2kW Primo 1PH Inverter
1 X Fronius 6.0kW Primo 1PH Inverter
2 X Tesla Powerwall 2 13.5kWh (27kWh total) w / Gateway and monitoring
Pat, Chief A Grade at Greenwood went to site and did an energy audit on what was on the property, and how we could integrate as much solar as possible to handle the load profile of how the house uses power, but also how much we can store - given the electrical infrastructure.
With any PV system, you need to be aware of what you can control voltage wise of incoming supply and how the system will perform based on what services are on site.
Pat's recommendation was to load up the main shed with as much solar as possible, but with the shed facing N / S, we needed to come up with a solution that provided the most amount of energy production.
Greenwood designed a system that consisted of 10.8kW of solar on the North roof with 1 X Fronius 8.2kW Primo Inverter flush mount, and 8.2kW of solar on the south roof, on tilt facing NW utilising a 6kW Fronius Primo Inverter.
Each side of the roof runs off to its own Tesla Powerwall 2 w / Gateway.
“Greenwood Solutions were the only company I could trust to deliver the capabilities I needed so that our new Yandoit property would thrive. We intend to grow commercial Crops here, and the system is set up in such a way that any energy the solar produces that isn't instantly utilised goes straight to the batteries. If the power goes out, I can still function which is a huge plus for this area. I'm never without power and I can go about my day to day without a worry, not to mention the reassurance it provides if we have extended power outages due to bushfires etc”

The Outcome:
The PV system will produce on average, 68kWh of renewable energy per day. If power is lost to the property, the batteries will kick in and maintain critical loads. The system has also been catered that any power that is not needed for the critical load will go into assisting with his night time load to reduce his energy spend.
The system offers long term reliable energy needs for the property and also offers flexibility through the Tesla Gateway as the business ramps up.
